What’s Happening in Nova Scotia (Sat. August 26 – Fri. September 8, 2017)

This blog features a couple of themed event highlights (Lobster Suppers, Community Breakfasts/Dinners, Local Festivals) and the calendar will continue to have everything.

This is a fantastic time to visit the province (or those of us who live within the province). Harvests are in full swing and the farmers markets and roadside stands are full of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Community Breakfast/Lunches/Dinners

Breakfast in Chester Basin on Saturday, August 26th at the Royal Canadian Legion. From 730-1030am.

Breakfast in Digby on Saturday, August 26th at the Masonic Hall. From 7-9am.

Brunch in Cherry Hill on Saturday, August 26th at the United Communities Fire Hall. From 8am-11am.

Codfish Supper in Gabarus Lake on Sunday, August 27th at the Zion United Church Hall. From 4-6pm.

Fish Fry in Hubbards on Sunday, August 27th at the Lions Club. From 4-6pm.

BBQ Supper and Barn Dance in Canning on Friday, September 1st at the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts. From 6pm.

Breakfast in Canning on Saturday, September 2nd at the United Baptist Church. From 730-1030am.

Breakfast in Chester Basin on Saturday, September 2nd at the Chester Basin Fire Hall. From 730-1030am.

Casserole & Baked Beans Supper in Tatamagouche on Saturday, September 2nd at the Sedgwick Memorial Presbyterian Church. From 4-6pm.

Lobster Suppers
Please check the calendar as it contains contact information – some lobster suppers require people to purchase advance tickets. This could range from full lobsters, lobster sandwiches or delicious lobster chowder. The calendar has specifics.

While most of the lobster meals are community based I am listing some private restaurants as well. I know you Lobster Fans want to know them ALL!

Lobster Chowder in Middleton on Tuesday August 29th at Middleton Fire Hall. From 1100am-1pm.

The Shore Club hosts Lobster Suppers until October 8, 2017. Wednesday through Sunday. Details are in the link. They also have great music acts on Saturday night. Meal runs from 4-7pm on Saturday nights. All other nights it is 4-8pm.

Halls Harbour hosts Lobster Suppers until October 15, 2017. Details are in the link including hours and information for groups.

Baddeck Lobster Suppers is a family owned restaurant that hosts seafood suppers until October 14, 2017. Details are in the link including hours, full menu and information for groups.

The Les Beaux Vendredis Seafood Suppers hosts Suppers every Friday (6-9pm) until September 8, 2017. Details are in the link including full menu and other information.

SavourtheSea hosts suppers every Wednesday (starting at 630pm) until September 27, 2017. Details are in the link.

Other Great Spots and Festivals
Also there’s a Alderney Farmers’ Market on Saturday. Lot’s of great local vendors – if you are there, say “Hi” to the gentlemen at Port City Cafe – they are some of my favourite people.

The Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival is happening from Amherst to Truro, Parrsboro to Tatamagouche, Kempt Shore to Oxford communities from August 18th to September 2nd.

Are you a motorcycle aficionado? The Wharf Rat Rally is happening in Digby from August 30th to September 3rd. I’ve been and it you like motorcycles of any style – you need to go!

In Halifax and love spooky ghost tours? Try Halifax Citadel Ghost Tour. Public tours are offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings July 6 – October 28, 2017. Public tours are offered in English only.
